I had so many brunch places that I wanted to bring my family to but our days in Melbourne were limited and I knew that I had to chose wisely. For a weekend morning, I decided on The Breakfast Thieves because the last time I was here with Daisy and Michelle, I didn't get to try much (thanks to a dreadful food poisoning). I was constantly eyeing their dishes while I had a simple toast and soft-boiled eggs!
When I was there for the second time (this visit), the sun was shining gloriously and I couldn't think of a better way to spend my Saturday morning!
Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows
We ordered cups of coffee and pots of tea as well but everyone started drinking before I could take pictures of them. Oh well, at least I have this cup of rich and smooth hot chocolate to entice you with!!
Sweet Brioche Pain Perdu
French toast with red wine poached rhubarb, cinnamon apple, candied walnuts
& vanilla maple panna cotta
Is this even meant to be on a breakfast menu??!!! If everyone started their day with this, there would be no grumbling bosses or angry road-users or tired students because everyone would be floating and gliding around in a cloud of sweet happiness. Bliss!
However, if you have a weak set of teeth, be cautious when eating the candied walnuts!
Crisp sweet corn and basil spiced fritters on homemade baked beans with side of smashed avocado toast & poached eggs
My family was really excited with the idea of this dish that we ended up with 3 plates of The Leprechaun! The fritters were nice & crisp and the eggs were beautifully poached but to our surprise, the star of the dish was the homemade baked beans. They were hearty, flavoursome and bound everything together.
Spicy baked eggs with roasted mushroom, green peas, spiced tomato ragout, goats' feta served with herbed garlic toast
The baked eggs originally came with spanish chorizo but I asked for a vegetarian version of this so, it was omitted. Even without the chorizo, every mouthful was bursting with bold and zesty flavours! The best part was eating the whole juicy mushrooms with the crusty garlic toast, and topped with a chunk of creamy egg yolk.
And if you haven't noticed yet, they are incredibly generous with their servings! We definitely had trouble finishing our dishes but we were rushing anywhere. So, my mum & aunt gossiped while my dad, brother & I discussed our latest reads and before we knew it, we were done with our meals!
