So, for one of my Sunday brunch with my brother, we headed over to a chic Thai restaurant next to Seven Seeds. Yup, I'm talking about Middle Fish! Everyone was buzzing about this youthful place when it first opened and I'm definitely a little late to the party! But better late than never!! :)
**I'm gonna be brief with this one and get back to my assignments! But I promise to make it up to you guys with something chocolate-y and fudge-y in the next post!! *wink wink*
Stir-fried pork belly with basil, veggies, rice and fried egg
Fried egg on top of rice!!! Now, that is comfort food at its best. The basil really shone through the stir-fry and both the veggies & pork belly pieces were plentiful! My brother's not too keen on vegetables and I'm not the biggest fan of meat so, the veg/meat ratio was perfect. Aren't we the best tag team? ;P
Crispy Omelette with Mussels (served with sweet chilli sauce)
This really reminded me of 'Oh Chien' (Fried Oyster Omelette) but a crispier version with less starch. The bean sprouts and carrots definitely helped lighten the dish nonetheless, we were stuffed and couldn't finish everything. All the portions were really generous, especially this one but it would be just right if you're sharing with more people!
Tom Yum soup with mushroom and prawns (served with rice)
When we ordered this, the cheery waiter asked how spicy we wanted it and of course, we went for the spicy option. Then, she gave us the choice of 'spicy' or 'super spicy' and thinking that it was going to be like Ying Thai 2's super spicy soup, we took the safer route and asked for spicy.
When it arrived, I was really excited by the amount of mushrooms that were floating about!! But, the soup was rather mild for our Malaysian palate. Put the spiciness aside, it was tangy, zesty and sourish. This would definitely be ideal on a cold winter's day!
Who would have thought that Thai food and chic-Melbourne-style-cafe could mesh so well together! End your meal with a cup of cappuccino or take away something sweet for an afternoon snack :)
