Affogato Espresso Bar, Hardware Ln

I've been meaning to give Affogato Espresso Bar a visit for quite some time but it's always hard to walk past Hardware Lane without stopping at Hardware Societe or Le Creperie Triskel! One sunny Saturday, I was determined to avoid all distractions and head straight over. This gem is situated directly across La Belle Miette so, do remember to pop over for a couple of macarons when you're done with brunch!

The large portion of the menu is dedicated to eggs and they do cater for those who are on a gluten-free diet. Oh! And they're open for dinner on Thursdays and Fridays!

 Affogato

The name of the place says it all! When in Rome, eat like the Romans :P

That's how we roll!! This is literally bittersweet.

 Vegetarian Omelette with Toast
(without cheese and feta)

I had them without any cheese on that day because my slightly lactose intolerant tummy was fussing about (though, it didn't stop me from stealing a bite or two from my brother's affogato!). I'm sure that the feta would have given the omelette an extra 'oomph' that it needed but the ample amount of veggies did a fair job.

Bacon, spinach, poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce on toast

My brother did order a side of extra garlic mushrooms but they failed to show up. However, the cheery waiter did apologise for it and no harm was done (a reason for another visit!). The yolks were not as runny as expected but otherwise, it was a hearty dish.

We did get something extra to compliment our savoury meal...

 French Toast with Maple Syrup

This is, hands down, one of the best french toast in Melbourne! As nice as a fancy brioche french toast is, a simple one like this just reminds you what french toast's about. It's about the right balance of eggy-ness, the buttery crisp sides, the moist insides and the essence of pure maple syrup.

For those who are looking for a sweet & salty experience, they do serve it with bacon!

I'll definitely return for their french toasts! Perhaps, a mixed berry and ice cream french toast.

  4. I adore affogatos! The Urban Pantry version in Canberra with caramel ice cream and chopped crunchie bars is BEST.

  9. Worthless Breakfast location
Toast and scrambled egg were cold and they do not clean the tables on time.
    Everything was served cold..
Brekky for two people 60 dollars just for two dishes
