During lunch, Nobu offers a spectacular bento set which we couldn’t say no to! And best of all, it was loaded with seafood.
Nobu Bento Box
Sashimi Salad with Matsushisa Dressing
Chef’s selection of assorted Sushi
Black Cod Miso
Baby Tiger Prawns with Butter Ponzu
Sauteed Vegetable with Spicy Garlic Sauce
Rice and Miso Soup
The bento set came with one bowl of miso soup so, I added an extra one. No sharing required!
Sauteed Vegetable with Spicy Garlic Sauce
My brother’s not a veggie person but he adored this dish. It wasn’t as spicy as I’d like my food to be but it was sure ‘garlicky’. Don’t get me wrong! The garlic didn’t overpower the dish, instead it was beautifully infused into the vegetables especially the mushrooms.
Black Cod Miso
I was beyond happy when I read that the bento set included Chef Matsuhisa’s signature dish! No one should ever leave Nobu without ordering the Black Cod Miso. And this was no doubt, our favourite dish from the bento! You’d get the saltiness from the miso, a hint of sweetness and the almost melt-in-your-mouth texture from the oily and fatty black cod. The hajikami is served as a palate cleanser but we were reminded not to eat the bitter pink part.
Salmon Sashimi Salad with Matsuhisa Dressing
The salmon itself was beautifully fresh and fatty. But with the dressing, it was heavenly! Light and refreshing without stealing the salmon’s thunder.
Chef’s selection of assorted Sushi
Baby Tiger Prawns with Butter Ponzu
The deep-fried plump and juicy prawns had a thin and light batter which soaked up the buttery sauce. And I was honestly surprised at the generous amount of prawns we found in the bento box!
Adding to the bento, we decided to order two more extra dishes..
Squid and Eggplant Tempura
Crisp, light and hardly a hint of oiliness. And the squid was perfectly cooked, I thought that I was biting into a piece of fish!
House Special Roll
The roll had a combination of several different fishes and tobiko with an interesting twist. Each roll had an outer wrapping of raw daikon, adding crunch to each bite. I’ve always preferred my sushi to be bursting with sweet and salty flavours but this was definitely an exception! This was back to basic and sometimes, less is more.
For $46.50, the bento was definitely worth its price. But lunch or dinner, I'm certainly going back for that black cod miso!
My little (taller than me) brother's all grown up! ;)

Awww... you are such a sweet sister. I would love to try Nobu's black cod miso, it looks delicious. Not baking any birthday cake for your bro?

Well aren't you a lovely sister! I would definitely go for that cod, that is something that I just go crazy for, so so tasty :)
ReplyDeleteYour brother's face changed a lot since the last time I've seen him in school. Becoming a man already! And you are still as pretty as ever!!!!
ReplyDelete@Tessa
ReplyDeleteawww :) Thank you Tessa! I've been dreaming about the cod ever since!! Too good.... Looks like we have very similar taste in food!! :D
@jilliancat
It's so funny how I can't tell the difference! Might be because I see him almost everyday?? awwww:) you're too kind!
hey, chicken's totally absent from this meal! :D
ReplyDeleteit looks like a great dinner. just from a layman's perspective, it really does seem to respect and pay tribute to all the fundamentals of japanese cooking, while still keeping things interesting. that's a difficult balance to keep! i usually skip miso cod if i see on the menu, usually cos i feel it'd taste predictable, but it sounds like the one here is absolutely worth ordering :D
ahhhh... one day I will get to try Nobu, looks great!
ReplyDelete@Sean
ReplyDeletehehe taking a break from chicken for a year! phew :) Definitely! Not just any plain ol' sashimi and sushi! Oh god! You can skip all the other cods but not this one!!! ;)
@Iron Chef Shellie
hehe I"m sure you'll love it!!! :D
