Yes. I went to Hong Kong! Oh, the glorious food.
By the time we (my mum, brother & me) checked-in to our hotel, we were famished. So, we dumped our bags in the room and headed towards the nearest char chan teng (tea restaurant/cafe).
Lunch: [Unnamed] Char Chan Teng
Dry noodles in XO sauce with Pork chop
A piece of thick pork on a bed of noodles toseed in XO sauce. Simple but flavourful, meaty and satisfying.
Ham omelette with Chicken chop & Instant noodle soup (not photographed)
The omelette was drenched in oil but you can't be choosers when hunger strikes! Again, a simple dish but it managed to kept our hunger at bay.
Dinner: The Sweet Dynasty
100 Canton Road
Shop G, G/F The Toy House
Tsim Sha Tsui
As I've mentioned before, my ultimate comfort food always involves rice! And porridge/congee sits on top of my list. After a day of travelling, a bowl of hot porridge is what I need.
Century egg & lean pork congee
The congee was incredibly smooth & thick with a generous serving of shredded lean pork & sliced century eggs. The only thing missing was sliced ginger but if my memory serves me well, all the congees I've had in Hong Kong never came with sliced ginger.
Pork kidney & liver porridge
Fresh, with impressive quality. The almost melt-in-your-mouth slices of kidney & liver gave the smooth congee a wonderful texture contrast and my brother finished every last drop.
Sweet & Sour Chicken
Since we already had pork in our congees, we decided go with chicken instead. The meat was tender and the slightly crisp flour coating soaked up a good amount of the lip-smacking sauce. And it went brilliantly with our bowl of porridges!
Deep-fried Dace fishballs
Despite being the appetizer, it came last and disappointingly ages after we finished our meal. The dish itself was also disappointing. The meat inside was tender but the outer skin was chewy and I had a tough time biting into it!
Despite the unfortunate fishball dish, the congees & sweet sour chicken made up for it. An exciting start to my short Hong Kong adventure so, stay tuned for the rest of my trip!
And a Happy New Year to all! :)
